K-12 Alliance of Michigan Celebrates Signing of Bill that Keeps School Dollars in Classrooms

Following Governor Whitmer’s signing of House Bill 5803, K-12 Alliance of Michigan released the following statement about the long-term positive impact it will have on school funding.

“House Bill 5803 being signed into law today marks a significant step forward for Michigan's schools by keeping more state funding in our classrooms, where it belongs, rather than being sent back to Lansing to cover debt payments to a retirement system that is no longer in debt,” said Al Latosz, Superintendent of Algonac Community Schools and President of The K-12 Alliance of Michigan. “We are grateful for the work of Rep. Koleszar, Rep. Weiss and all of those in the legislature who worked alongside us to make today possible, as well as to Governor Whitmer for now signing this bill into law. Moving forward, hundreds of millions of additional dollars will be able to be spent on our students and their success every single year as a result of today's bill signing
